The Great Commission
The Great Commission was the
last set of instructions given by Jesus to His followers which includes us. “Then
Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been
given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to
obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the
very end of the age’.” (Matthew
28:18-20).
Verse 18.
"All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me." Describes the power of Jesus over the
physical and the spiritual realms. This also means that we have no authority
without Jesus, i.e. without Him we can do nothing but with Him, we can do all
things. Please note that the enemy has zero authority.
Verse 19,
Jesus commands us with His infinite authority. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
Jesus calls us to share the Good News of salvation throughout the world, i.e.
that we have been all saved by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He
is the way, the truth and the life.
Verse 19
specifically mentions the Holy Trinity. The three Persons in One God are equal
and are presented as the Father, the Son
and the Holy Spirit.
Verse 20,
Jesus says, "teaching them to
observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age." Christians are instructed to teach others
about Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. We can be confident that Jesus will be
there to support us until His second coming. Christ is present by the power of
the Holy Spirit in every believer. We have the mind of Jesus. Jesus calls every
Christian to step out in faith and spread the Good News (Gospel).
Has God put anyone in your
heart that needs to hear about Jesus and the Good News?
Please know that Christ is by
your side as you make new disciples, i.e. new followers of Christ.
Let’s talk
about the Fruit of the Spirit:
The Fruit of the Holy Spirit is a biblical term that sums up nine
attributes of a person or community living in accord with the Holy Spirit as
described in Galatians 5:25:
The Fruit of the Spirit
is:
LOVE ... JOY ... PEACE ...
PATIENCE ... KINDNESS ... GOODNESS ...
FAITHFULNESS ... GENTLENESS ... SELF-CONTROL.
