Here I Am Lord
1Samuel 3:1-10
3 The boy
Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord
was rare; there were not many visions.
2 One night
Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down
in his usual place. 3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was
lying down in the house of the Lord, where the ark of God was. 4 Then the Lord
called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.”5 And he ran to Eli and said, “Here
I am; you called me.”
But Eli said,
“I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6 Again the
Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am;
you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”
7 Now Samuel
did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to
him. 8 A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to
Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli
realized that the Lord was calling the boy.
9 So Eli told
Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your
servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 The Lord
came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel
said, “Speak, Lord for your servant is listening.”
Summary: Samuel was a special child,
born to Hannah (who was unable to have children). She promised God that she would dedicate her child to the
temple if she was able to conceive. Samuel was born and lived in the temple
with Eli. He heard God calling him in the verses above. He became the last
Judge for Israel and a prophet who eventually selected David as King of Israel.
As we know, Jesus was born from David's royal lineage.
Question? Is God calling
you? "My people suffer due to lack of
knowledge."
What
does God want you to know? Is He asking you to:
-
to get to know Him
-
to know that He loves you just the way you are
-
to know that He wants to bring your sins to Him so He can forgive you
-
to know that He wants to help you and work with you on those things that hurt
you and that pull you away from Him
-
to know that He wants to set you free from your personal prisons
i.e.
addictions to computer games, social networks, pornography, gossip, criticizing
others, not forgiving others, gambling, money, fame, power, adultery, etc.
i.e.
selfishness, laziness, complacency, hopelessness, lies, negativity, worries,
tension, anxiety, etc.
-
to know that He wants to help you plan for your future and to leave your past
behind
-
to know that He doesn't want you to be anxious for anything or to have any
worries or concerns.
-
to know that He wants you to place EVERYTHING in His hands and that He will
find the best solution for you and it will ALWAYS turn out for the best.
-
to know that NOTHING is impossible for Him to do ... to be at rest and know
that He is God, the creator of ALL THINGS ... let Him do His thing and trust in
Him!
-
to know that He wants to bless you with His love and present you with the
desires of your heart, exceedingly and abundantly far beyond what we can ever
think of
-
to know that He wants you to be healthy, strong and of clear mind
-
to know that He wants you to help others, to forgive them, to share His love
with them and to tell them about His blessings.
-
to know that as you help others, He will bless you beyond your expectations so
you can continue to give more and more. You can never outgive God. The heavens
will open and flow out to you.
-
to know that He is always with you and will always protect you. Just know that
if God is for you who can possibly be against you?
-
to know that nothing can ever separate you from His love. The enemy will
constantly try to fool you and lie to you to pull you away. He will be there to
pull you back.
-
to know that He wants you to always be full of joy.
-
to know that as He blesses you more and more that you will be thanking Him more
and more
-
to know that as you become aware of Him and His blessings, you will want to be
in His presence more and more
-
to know that you will come to understand the power of prayer
-
to know that your faith and trust in Him will bring about wonderful and
miraculous things to happen in your life and in the lives of others
-
to know that without Him we are nothing, we are in danger (exposed to the
elements), lost, in our personal prisons, at the mercy of this world, trapped
in our misled desires
-
to know that with Him we are at peace with no concerns, full of His love and
blessings, full of hope, led by His Spirit
-
to know that He will guide you in His loving way to the BEST solutions in your
life which may not be your way, which you may not agree with, which may not
make you happy, which may take longer than you expected, which may cause you to
want to give up, which may seem frightening or overwhelming or incomprehensible
or unachievable or beyond reason ... Just know and trust that He is God!
YES, God IS calling you!
Let us respond
by saying:
"Here I am Lord, please speak, your servant is
listening."
