Commissioned
Isaiah 6:1-8
6 In the year of King Uzziah’s
death, I saw the sovereign master seated on a high, elevated throne. The hem of
his robe filled the temple.
2 Seraphs stood over him; each
one had six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they
covered their feet, and they used the remaining two to fly.
3 They called out to one another,
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who commands armies! His majestic splendor fills
the entire earth!” 4 The sound of their voices shook the door frames, and the
temple was filled with smoke.
5 I said, “Too bad for me! I am
destroyed, for my lips are contaminated by sin, and I live among people whose
lips are contaminated by sin. My eyes have seen the king, the Lord who commands
armies.”
6 But then one of the seraphs
flew toward me. In his hand was a hot coal he had taken from the altar with
tongs. 7 He touched my mouth with it and said, “Look, this coal has touched
your lips. Your evil is removed; your sin is forgiven.”
8 I heard the voice of the
sovereign master say, “Whom will I send? Who will go on our behalf?” I
answered, “Here I am, send me!”
Isaiah caught a glimpse of the Majesty of the Lord and the
multitude of Angels praising Him. Isaiah was unworthy because he was
contaminated by sin. He was forgiven and the Lord accepted him as His
representative. He was commissioned!
We Have Also Been Commissioned by
Jesus
Although we are sinful and unworthy, God forgives us in the
Name of Jesus and has authorized us to tell everyone the Good News, that the Kingdom of God is
here now and to baptize, teach about Christ's commands, heal and cast out
demons.
Matthew 28: Christ said:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I
am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 10 ... Christ said:
"As you go, preach
this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive
out demons. Freely you have received, freely give."
John 14:12 ... Christ said:
"I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous deeds that I
am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these, because I am going to
the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may
be glorified in the Son. If you ask me
anything in my name, I will do it. … If you love me, keep my commands. And
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be
with you forever - the Spirit of truth.
The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you
know him, for he lives with you and will be in you ... the Advocate, the
Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things
and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
