Confirmation
What does the word
CONFIRMATION mean?
CONFIRMATION is an establishment of the truth of something
previously believed to be the case. Synonyms: verification, proof,
testimony, approval, endorsement, authentication, substantiation, evidence, authorization, validation, endorsement, formalization, acceptance, etc.
What does
CONFIRMATION mean for those being confirmed?
They are confirming their Christian belief by
making a mature statement of faith in God the Father, God the Son and
God the Holy Ghost as well as a full
commitment to Jesus Christ.
"I
have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who
lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the
Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."
(Gal. 2:20)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is
a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
(2Cor 5:17)
Christ said in
Matthew 7:20, “By their fruits you will know them.
Galatians 5:22
… when we live by the Holy Spirit, we exemplify the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
What does
CONFIRMATION mean for the members of the church?
We as members are
confirming to those being confirmed that we
will provide a church that is serving as the Heart of Christ, filled with God’s
love and fully committed to loving Our Father in Heaven and to loving one
another.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what
is the Will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
Paul says to new
Christians: I want you to get out there and
walk—better yet, RUN!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want
any of you sitting around. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path
that goes nowhere. And make sure that you do this with humility and
discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for
each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending
fences. You were all called to travel on the same road and in the same
direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly. You have one Master,
one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works
through all, and is present in all. Everything you are and think and do is
permeated with Oneness. (Ephesians 4:1-6)
