Signs of Being a Christian

Signs of Being a Christian

Isaiah 55: 10-13 … The name (Isaiah) means "Salvation of the Lord"

The Prophet Isaiah (‘spokesman for God’) lived more than 700 years before Christ. Prophet Isaiah with particular clarity and detail predicts the coming of the Messiah, Christ our Savior. The prophet names the Messiah as God and Man, teacher of all the nations, founder of the Kingdom of peace and love.
The New Testament quotes more verses from the book of Isaiah than any other Old Testament prophet (85 times).

The Messianic Prophet foretells the birth of the Messiah from a Virgin and with particular clarity he describes the suffering of the Messiah for the sins of the world. He foresees His Resurrection and the spreading of the Word.

Isaiah is well known for the words, “He was pierced for our sins and tortured for our transgressions. The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him and by His wounds we are healed ...”  Christ has fully paid for all of our sins and illnesses.

10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

Rain and snow come down from the clouds in the heavens, and do not return again until they have done what they are sent to do. (see Hosea 6:3) … just as Christ came down from Heaven.

11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers and the flowers fade but the Word of our God endures forever."
John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
John 1:14  “The Word became flesh and made His home among us.”

Christ said:  “I AM … the bread of life … the light of the world … the door … the true vine
Before Abraham was born, I AM (Yahweh) … the Son of God … the resurrection and the life
the way the truth and the life … the gate, whoever enters through me will be saved
the good shepherd … the alpha and omega (the beginning and the end)”

It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Christ won a victory over the enemy and He brought a blessing to all of the nations of the earth (Gen 22:17-18). Christ died to bring us back to God. The Messiah was ‘the purpose’ that God had from the very beginning which became reality when Jesus (which means “savior”) was born. God reconciled mankind back to Him through Christ who lived a perfect life of obedience. Jesus’ human nature ‘did not sin’ (1 Peter 2:22). He fulfilled God’s Will perfectly (Col 1:15) and could say to his followers “He who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). This was God’s plan of opening up a way for salvation and reversing the effects of Adam’s fall. Only someone who possessed the inclination to sin and yet overcame it’s temptations completely could be the perfect sacrifice to take away sin. No other man could have done this because everyone else has “sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). He was the only begotten Son of God. We read in the Bible that death is the wages for sin (Romans 6:23) and so therefore Jesus rose from the dead because he had no personal transgressions. Jesus had to die because he possessed our ‘sin cursed’ nature – the same nature we all inherited from Adam (Hebrews 2:14).

12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

Nature will celebrate the coming of the Lord who did not come to condemn the world but to save it. When we are freed ("go out") from prison i.e. the bondage to sin, out of a state of darkness and ignorance; out of yourself and your own beliefs and sinful ways, and do not conform to this world: we go out freely, being led by the Holy Spirit of God; who takes us by our hand and leads us to Christ, to the Kingdom of God all of which is accompanied by "joy and peace"; finding themselves released from bondage, in a state of light and comfort, out of the horrible pit, and brought to Christ, and clothed with his righteousness; the mountains and the hills shall begin to sing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands; rejoicing at the coming of the Lord.

13 Instead of the thorn bush will grow the juniper and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign that will endure forever.”

Because of Christ, ``Instead of the ungodly, the righteous shall rise up … and instead of sinners, those who fear the Lord shall rise up.

''Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”  (2Cor 5:17)  Christ said in Matthew 7:20, “By their fruits you will know them.”  Galatians 5:22 … when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce these fruits in us:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (gentleness and self-control).

Signs of Being a Christian

Living in the Light of Christ
Our life is open to God, with nothing hidden. Then God is able to work through us and the enemy is not able to ‘accuse’ us. It means that we want every area of our life exposed to the searchlight of God’s Spirit and anything that is not from Him can be cleansed and removed.

A Desire to Trust and Obey God
A strong desire within a believer to please God if they have truly come to know and love Him.

Share God’s Love with Others
We will have a desire to spend time and help others with an attitude of love and forgiveness.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciple - if you love one another.” (John 13;35)

Leave the world behind
We are no longer to be conformed to the world’s standards, ideals or way of thinking. Instead we are to be transformed in our minds to be in line with God’s will. (Romans 12:2)

Acknowledging that Jesus is God and Our Lord & Savior
In order to know God we must know Jesus. He is the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE.”
(John 14:6)
